Blue Demons Men Intermediate Team has retained its NICC Men’s Cup title for another year. Demons defeated BC Leixlip Zalgiris in the final at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin on 27-Jan-2018. Congratulations to all the players and coaches Troy O’Mahony and Carlton Cuff. Blue Demons Liam Carmody was named game’s MVP after providing a shooting masterclass and proving valuable on both sides of the court. Demons did their homework on the opposition while coach Troy O’Mahony expected it to be a closer game recognising the size of the  opponents. Demons watched BC Leixlip Zalgiris playing in the semi-final and came up with a game plan that would allow them to use their speed, guards and experience to enforce that plan on Leixlip Zalgiris. Shane Coughlan and Shane McCarthy provided much needed presence and experience near the boards to counter the bigger Zalgiris’ players. Both Shanes also scored some spectacular 3 point shots. Ryan Murphy was a constant threat and David Lehane played very well too netting 11 points himself.
