U15’s reach John Coughlan Tournament Final & Juvenile Boys Games Updates
Blue Demons U15’s reached the final of the very prestigious John Coughlan tournament on Saturday the 4th of January in the Parochial Hall. They started the tournament with good pool wins against Ballincollig & Clare Cruscaders. They then played Titans of Galway in the last pool game to decide who won the group. Demons managed to come out on top on a scoreline of 40-21 despite being 8 points down in the 3rd quarter with some great individual performances.
Demons then played our rivals Neptune in the semi final. Demons started with great intensity on the defensive end to lead 16-4 at the end of the 1st. The intensity on defense continued in the 2nd quarter with Demons leading on a scoreline of 27-12 at half time with a great finish to the first half by James Beckom as he hit a 3 on the buzzer. Demons continued to drive home their superiority in the 3rd (34-18) and 4th quarters to run out eventual winners on a scoreline of 42-31. Superb performance from James Beckom on both ends of the court and he was greatly helped by Derek, EJ Doe and Blake Murphy.
We then played Sligo in the final but from the get go, we were slow out of the traps and failed to regain the intensity levels we had shown in the semi final. We were 14-8 down at the end of the first and 38-21 down at the end of the 3rd quarter and unfortunately this very talented Sligo team had too much for us on the day but the team(mainly U14 team members) can be very proud of their efforts and special thanks to coaches Dave Lehane, Conor Deasy and Troy O’Mahony for all their efforts over the last few weeks in preparing the team so well.
Juvenile Boys hosted 4 games on Sunday morning in the Parochial Hall (5th Jan). Blue Demons played U10/U12/U14 & U16 league games with very strong performances from our juvenile teams and a good standard of basketball on show from all teams involved.
Our U10s were first on court against Ballincollig with a very strong showing from both teams who played some excellent basketball and played hard throughout under the coaching of Jim O’Sullivan and Brian Horgan. Some great performances from all but standout performances from Emmet Roche, Ben Horgan,Daryll Cuffe,Craig Hoare,Cian O’Sullivan, Cian Murphy,James Bullman, Daniel Muame and Xavier Ticao.
Our U12’s coached by Stephen Hannigan were next up against a very well drilled Limerick Celtics team and Demons ran out winners on a scoreline of 34-22. Some good individual performances from Colin Hannigan, Tom Sexton and Liam Donovan.
Next up for our U12’s is the Championship Final against Ballincollig this Tuesday night(7th Jan) @ 6:15pm in the Parochial Hall. The lads would greatly appreciate all support at this game.
Despite Limerick U14’s late arrival with a mix up on start times, our U14’s ran out comprehensive winners with some good fast break play. Our U14’s also play their championship final this coming Thursday(9th Jan) @ 6:15pm in the Parochial Hall.
Our U16’s played a very competitive game against Limerick and it was a tight game throughout. Demons won on a score line of 59-54. Great performances from James Beckom on the boards and Jamie Thompson who had 4 big steals in the third quarter to put Demons into an 8 point lead. A great performance considering the majority of the team had played in the John Coughlan tournament final yesterday.
