There was a good morning of basketball in the Parochial Hall this morning(1-Nov) with our U11, U12 & U13 teams all in action. First up were our U11’s against Neptune on court 2. Brian Horgan’s team were slow out of the traps after Halloween festivities but pushed hard in the second half with some very good hustle and scoring as both teams put on a good display of basketball.
On court 1, our U13’s were up against a very tall Cobh team. The teams were all square at 6-6 each after a slow first quarter. Brian and Tony Foley’s team upped the defensive intensity in the 2nd quarter to lead 25-7 at half time after some very good fast break basketball and scores from Emmet Roche and Matthew McCarthy. Demons kept the pressure up in the 3rd quarter to lead 32-13 after some good outside shooting from Conor Murphy. Our U13’s continued to keep the pressure on with Colin Hannigan to the fore, Demons debutant James Drummond also got in on the scoring act as our lads won on a scoreline of 43-19.
At 10:30, our U12’s coached by Jim O’Sullivan were next up as they entertained our local rivals Neptune. Demons made hard work of the game as they played some very good basketball but left some scores behind due to poor finishing in the first half to lead 22-17. Jim’s troops really upped the intensity in the 3rd quarter as they stretched their to lead to 33-24 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Demons ran out winners on a scoreline of 44-30 as our lads get into the swing of their first competitive steps.
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the teams this moring.
Next up this week are our U16B’s who play Glanmire in the U16B championship on Tuesday night (3-Nov).
We have 3 teams out in Fr Mathews next Saturday (U11, U12 & U14) with games at 2pm, 3pm & 4pm.
Our U18’s will also be in action next weekend in Galway in the U18 National Cup qualifiers.
