Blue Demons juvenile boys had a very busy weekend with 5 games alone this morning(21-Feb) in a packed Parochial Hall. Our’s U18’s coached by Conor Deasy, Shane Coughlan and David Brickley progressed to the quarter finals of the U18 National Cup shield after an excellent victory over Killester of Dublin. Our U18’s pushed hard from the start and lead 15-4 after 6 minutes but Killester came back into it to trail 22-15 at the end of the 1st quarter. After some excellent passing and cuts to the basket, our lads continued to increase the lead 45-32. Demons continued to keep the scoring momentum going as they hustled hard to lead 64-49 end of the 3rd. Our lads continued to keep the pressure on to run out winners on a scoreline of 81-66. Our lads played some very good basketball and top scorers on the day were James Beckom (20), Dylan Brickley (14) and Adam Lordan (14). It was a real team effort on the day as everybody played their part in a fast flowing contest.
First up this morning on court 2 were our U11’s who continue to develop and played some very good basketball against Fr Mathews.
On court 2, our U13’s continued their impressive form in a repeat of the recent championship final against Fr Mathews. It was a tight affair throughout but our lads shows true grit down the stretch to win by a margin of 3 points on a scoreline of 35-32 in what was a very low scoring defensive game.
Our U12’s also played Fr Mathews and put on a scoring exhibition as they pushed the pace and moved the ball well in a one sided victory (48-15).
The last of our games this morning against Fr Mathews were our U10 boys where both teams showed great spirit in a very competitive game.
Next weekend is another busy weekend, our U17’s ramp up their Billy Kelly preparations by traveling to Tralee for the James Hobbert tournament organised by St Brendan’s.
We have 3 games in the hall next Friday night with 3 games against Limerick Lions for our U12’s (6:30pm tip off), U16’s (7:30pm tip off) and U18’s are in action at 8:30pm.
On Sunday 28th our U13’s make the trip to Ballincollig and U14’s host Limerick Lakers.
