Congratulations to our U16B team tonight who were victorious in their championship final before a large attendance in the Parochial Hall. Our lads started well and lead 8-2 at the end of the first quarter after some good outside shooting and tough defense. Demons found it tough to get shots off in the 2nd quarter as E.C. Glenmary closed the gap to 2 points at half time (16-14). The game got a lot tighter in the 3rd quarter as Glenmary edged ahead 24-22 with Demons finding it hard to score. The 4th quarter was a ding dong affair as both teams gave it their all but Paddy Hession’s troops dug deep in the last couple of exciting minutes to win by 2 points on a scoreline of 32-30. It is great reward for this team who have shown great commitment throughout the season.

Our U14 team gave it their all in the U14A Championship final but ultimately came up short against a talented Fr Mathews team after a very exciting game. Demons started slowly as they were down 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. The 2nd quarter was a scrappy affair with missed opportunities as Mathews continued to lead 29-21. In the 3rd quarter, Brian and Tony Foley’s lads only started to play when they went 15 points down and really increased the intensity on defense as they reduced the deficit to 7 points at the end of the 3rd quarter (38-31).  The 4th quarter was a real battle on both ends as Demons reduced the deficit to 4 points with 2 minutes left and even got it down to 1 point but couldn’t get it level as Mathews ran out winners by 2 points (47-45) after a really exciting game.

All in all, it’s been a very successful CCB Championship campaign for Blue Demons juvenile boys teams with victories in the U12A, U16A & U16B categories and a very tough defeat for our U14A’s. Well done to all involved!
