Blue Demons U18’s coached by Conor Deasy and David Brickley put up some brave performances over the weekend in the U18 cup qualifiers in Galway. The first game on Saturday was a real battle against Kestrels but Demons ran out winners on a scoreline of 39-34.

Demons then played Vincent’s in the second pool game but started poorly and ran out losers on a scoreline of 74-39. Everything was in the balance going into this mornings final pool game against a very fancied Templeogue as Templeogue beat Vincent’s on Saturday 53-50.

However, Conor Deasy’s team came out with guns blazing and it was all level at 37 each at end of the 3rd quarter as Demons battled hard. However, our lads ran out of steam in the final minute of the 4th quarter and Templeogue won by 5 points (53-47). Great displays over the weekend by Dylan Brickley, who was the best guard on show , Robert Cahill (U16) who was dominant in Sundays game, while U16’s Alex Foley and Ethan Hurley played major minutes and Jamie Thompson also needs a mention with a special period against Vincent’s with 8 points, a magic left hand layup and a special basket hang in the final quarter.

A great weekend performance considering injuries and key players who couldn’t travel.

Thanks also to Barry Deasy and Brian Foley who were on chauffeur duties over the weekend.

Our U11’s were in action in Fr Mathews on Saturday and put on a good show of basketball with Jim O’Sullivan refereeing due to the referees not turning up. Our U12’s were left disappointed with no referees for their competitive game. Our U14’s coached by Darren O’Leary made their competitive debut for the season after the referees turned up with victory against Fr Mathews winning by 6 points on a scoreline of 46-40.
