UCC Demons face newcomers Maree in Galway

Colin O’Reilly, UCC Demons Head Coach:

We enter the unknown today as we face newcomers Maree in Galway. With all new teams into the league the early games are hard to judge as they get acclimated to the speed, size and physicality of the league. You can see by their results they are getting better each game and their American has settled very well into the league. They have a lot of talent who have won a lot of medals at underage and division 1 so that experience will help them grow into the league.

Having only 5 days between games has not been ideal for us as we try get players back healthy. With the arrival of Lehmon “Lee “ Colbert last week we really need to scrimmage hard at training to build chemistry however we also have to be conscious of injuries and guys bodies breaking down from them. We have analysed our first 3 games and have taken away the necessary points of improvement needed in order for us to reach our goals. With this we have limited the contact in sessions but upped the execution side of our schemes.

With such a brand new group it takes time and these 5 straight games on the road can really help form our identity. The uncomfortable nature of the away games will give us a good indication of where we stand and hopefully after this stretch is done we are still in contention to get to where we want to go.
