Colin O’Reilly, UCC Demons Head Coach:
We return home to the Mardyke this weekend to play one of the League favorites. The schedule has been tough for us at the start of the season as we take on the big guns early with a depleted squad. However this will benefit us in the long run. In order for us to grow and reach our potential we had to learn to be uncomfortable as a group and still find a way to perform. These first three games will have given us this opportunity and we can bank this experience for later in the season.
This week has seen a lot of positives for us a group. It was the first time where we have been able to scrimmage 5 on 5 at each session. Our intra squad scrimmages are extremely important for our growth as it gives us more reps while trying different combinations against live opposition. You can see during the sessions that players are carrying the confidence gained from the performance against Tralee and UCD through to training and are starting to build a greater familiarity with each other.
Now that our roster is complete it’s a case of making sure we get fellas back healthy while maintaining the sharpness of the players that a currently available for selection at the weekends. It’s going to take us time to figure out what our full potential is but we know we are moving in the right direction so it’s great to have the Demons faithful along for the ride.
