We are where we need to be.
The first half of the 2013/14 season has been a very intense and exciting time for me as an individual and also as a team. From the beginning of preseason Colin [O’Reilly] has had us buy into an up tempo and high intensity style of play both in training and on game day. We started off the season with a tough win against UL on the road. Although not performing the way we can, we knew a win like that would stand to us as the season progresses. We then moved on with the season and began to improve both offensively and defensively. We found ourselves on the winning side of two home games against Neptune and DCU and one of our best performances yet away to Dublin inter.
As we came closer to Christmas we parked the league and took the floor against a talented UCD team in a two leg Cup tie. We put together a nice performance in the first leg, however it took us to the last second to get by in the second. It was a tough bump in the road however we are where we need to be.
Since the cup tie with Marian I feel our defence has gone to another level. Beating both star and Killester in their home gyms definitely came down to our intensity of the defensive end. However, we are not satisfied and we will not take the foot off the pedal over Christmas as we are in for an extremely tough January. Having both UCD and DCU away, UL at home and of course the cup tie vs Killester and hopefully onto the final, we’re in for an action packed January, which will have a huge say in the overall outcome of our season.
So far the season has been a successful one and we are where we need to be. Having said that the most important part of our season is yet to come. We will remain focused on our goals and take it one game at a time. We’ve set ourselves up nicely for the remainder of the season and hopefully we will give the fans something to cheer about come 2014.
