C&S UCC Demons Starts The Season With A Win On The Road
Saturdays win was your typical early season game and for us it showed where we are as a squad at this point. We showed great character in gutting out a victory in the end. However this was a game we should of won comfortably when leading by 16 with five minutes to go in the third but somehow managed to hand the initiative to Limerick and found it very hard to get any sort of tempo going for the remainder of the game.
Going on the road against the defending champions is never easy, so from that point of view the positives far outweigh the negatives. We played 25 minutes of quaility basketball which put us from 7 down to 16 up. The style, tempo and aggression during this period is something we are trying to replicate throughout the forty minutes of each game. We know our advantages are to play at a high speed and rotate guys in and out, which we managed by having ten players play and score in the game. It was when Limerick turned the game into a half court slugfest that we struggled and that is something we expect teams to do and something we will have to counter throughout the season.
Moving forward we will look to the small details on both ends of the court to give us the improvement that hopefully will turn us into a side that can reach forty minutes of quaility basketball. Like I said previously it will take time with a new team to gel but we are definately on the right track. Thanks again to the fans that made the trip and we look forward to our home opener Sunday.
