Blue Demons U14 boys had a great day yesterday when winning the prestigious Emmett Neville Memorial Tournament in Neptune Stadium. Our lads started the pool with a close win over Tralee Bobcats and followed this up with victory over a talented Mallow team and our lads topped their pool with victory over Fr Mathews.

In the semi finals, our lads played Sligo and started well leading 18-9 after the first quarter. The second quarter was much tighter with Demons lead reduced to 7 (20-13). Demons upped it in the 3rd quarter to push the lead out to 14 (35-21). Sligo continued their full court press in the 4th quarter and closed the gap but Demons ran out winners on a scoreline of 41-33 to qualify for the final against Fr Mathews.

In the final, Demons really started well through great scoring from Mathew McCarthy and lead 10-3 after great defense in the 1st qtr. Demons again pushed the pace in the 2nd qtr to lead 20-9 at half time after good defense again. The game opened up in the 3rd quarter to lead 27-16 as both teams tired after a long day. In the 4th quarter, Demons increased the scoring tempo to run out winners on a scoreline of 43-29. It was just rewards for our lads who lost in a tournament final the previous weekend up in Sligo against Manchester Giants.

Congratulations to coaches Brian and Tony Foley and to all involved on a great day of basketball in memory of Emmett as the tournament was very well organised. Demons Mathew McCarthy also picked up the tournament MVP after some great performances throughout the day.

Our U12’s also won the league yesterday after a great away win in Ballincollig. Congrats to coaches Brian and Troy and to all the team!

Next up are our U16A team who play Ballincollig away on Tuesday night at 8pm in a table top clash. Our lads had a good run out this morning as part of their preparation against a talented Killorglin U17 team.
