Congratulations to Blue Demons U15 Boys who won the extremely prestigious Mr John Coughlan Tournament today in the Parochial Hall. Coached by Stephen Hannigan and Bryan Forde, our lads started strong by winning both pool games against Eanna of Dublin and St Brendan’s of Tralee to win their pool. Demons played Ballincollig in the quarter finals and played well and ran out winners 52-36. In the semi finals, we played Bobcats of Kerry in what was a very tight competitive game from start to finish. We were 11-10 down end of the 1st, our lads picked it up in the 2nd qtr to lead 24-20 at half time and kept the narrow lead at the end of the 3rd (34-29). Both teams traded baskets throughout the 4th quarter but our lads hit some big shots down the stretch to win 43-38 after a very tough battle.
In the final played before a large attendance, our lads played Fr. Mathews in what was a rerun of previous battles. Demons started well to lead 12-9 at the end of the 1st. Demons again pushed the pace in the 2nd quarter with some big 3’s to stretch the lead to 13 points at half time(26-13) after a very good defensive performance as well. Demons again maintained the momentum to lead 40-21 at the end of the 3rd and eventually won on a score line of 44-27 after a very good performance from all involved.
Unfortunately, our honorary Club President Mr. Coughlan was unable to make it in person today due to illness to present the trophy to our captain Mark Watkins. We would like to wish Mr. Coughlan a speedy recovery.
Thanks to the large and vocal Demons support who turned out today.
Congrats again to the players & coaches on an excellent display today!
