[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25″][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#3676c7″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”20″][stm_team_history feature=”%5B%7B%22year%22%3A%221968%20%22%2C%22title%22%3A%22Participation%20in%20the%20first%20National%20Club%20Competition%20%22%2C%22content%22%3A%22The%20National%20Club%20competition%20was%20the%20forerunner%20of%20the%20National%20League%20that%20commenced%20in%20the%201971%2F72%20season.%20Blue%20Demons%20were%20one%20of%20the%20founder%20clubs%20of%20the%20National%20League%20which%20is%20known%20today%20as%20the%20Superleague.%20Blue%20Demons%20also%20became%20the%20front%20runners%20in%20major%20sponsorship%20and%20international%20Basketball%20in%20Cork%20by%20hosting%20the%20Major%20Extra%20Size%20Basketball%20Tournaments%20at%20The%20Parochial%20Hall%22%7D%2C%7B%22year%22%3A%221966%20%22%2C%22title%22%3A%22Blue%20Demons%20Basketball%20Club%20founded%20%22%2C%22content%22%3A%22Decision%20was%20made%20that%20the%20time%20was%20right%20to%20enter%20the%20senior%20ranks%20of%20Cork%20Basketball.%20The%20ingredients%20were%20near%20perfect%20the%20main%20one%20being%20players%20who%20had%20a%20continuity%20of%20success%20at%20juvenile%20level%20with%20DePaul%2C%20a%20good%20administration%20led%20initially%20by%20Jim%20Dineen%20and%20then%20by%20Noel%20McCarthy.%20A%20good%20treasurer%20was%20required%20and%20Michael%20O%E2%80%99Sullivan%2C%20who%20was%20and%20still%20is%20the%20best%20treasurer%20the%20club%20ever%20had%2C%20filled%20this%20position.%20The%20name%20of%20Blue%20Demons%20was%20the%20preferred%20choice%20of%20name%20as%20it%20was%20the%20nick-name%20of%20DePaul%20University%20of%20Chicago%20college%20basketball%20team%2C%20who%20were%20very%20generous%20in%20their%20support%20of%20the%20fledgling%20De%20Paul%20Boys%20Club.%20Those%20early%20years%20were%20exciting%20for%20all%20those%20participating%20in%20establishing%20Blue%20Demons%20as%20a%20basketball%20force%20first%20in%20Cork%20and%20then%20nationally.%20%22%7D%2C%7B%22year%22%3A%221959%22%2C%22title%22%3A%22De%20Paul%20Boys%20Club%20founded%22%2C%22content%22%3A%22Rev.%20Fr.%20Charles%20Sinnott%20a%20Vincentian%20%20stationed%20at%20St.Vincents%20Church%2C%20Sundays%20formed%20a%20youth%20club%20De%20Paul%20Boys%20Club%20to%20provide%20a%20meaningful%20activity%20centre%20for%20the%20young%20men%20of%20the%20area.%20The%20activities%20were%20mainly%20indoors%2C%20and%20basketball%20was%20a%20good%20fit.%20The%20Club%20operated%20in%20the%20Crypt%20of%20St.Vincent%E2%80%99s%20Church.%20Another%20Vincentian%20Father%20O%E2%80%99Farrell%20organised%20a%20basketball%20team%20among%20the%20altar%20servers%20at%20St.Vincent%E2%80%99s.%20D.%20Club%20decided%20to%20develop%20its%20own%20court%20and%20De%20Paul%20built%20full%20size%20court%20at%20the%20Rope%20Walk%20on%20Wyse%E2%80%99s%20Hill.%20This%20was%20to%20remain%20the%20main%20training%20court%20for%20Blue%20Demons%20until%20the%20late%20seventies%20when%20all%20training%20relocated%20primarily%20to%20the%20indoor%20facilities%20at%20the%20Parochial%20Hall.%20%22%7D%5D”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”15″][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#3676c7″][vc_empty_space height=”15″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
